Description

A Sense of Entry: Designing the Welcoming School presents 17 projects from Denver-based firm Hutton Ford Architects' extensive portfolio. The firm's primary goal in designing schools is to create high-performance places that enhance the learning experience. Solutions are sought that provide a welcoming feeling , solve pragmmatic and functional requirements, are environmentally responsible, and acknowledge the significant role that the school plays in the lives of children and teachers and its contribution to the community.

Given the complexity of functions and the scale of a typical school today, it is important that entrances and movement systems are designed in an intuitive and straightforward manner. The size of schools dictate s that one spends a lot of time moving within and around the school. The emphasis on entrances and movement systems is part of an overall strategy for high-performance school design that creates a positive architectural experience.
