Continuing their acclaimed book publishing programme and the huge success of Hand of the Architect (2009, also available from Turnaround), iconic product designers Moleskine are proud to announce a new architecture series, Inspiration and Process, which compiles individual monographs approaching the design process of different international architects: Zaha Hadid, Bolles + Wilson, Giancarlo De Carlo and Alberto Kalach.
Born in Mexico, in 1960 Alberto Kalach studied architecture at the Universidad Iberoamericana and at Cornell University, New York. He lives and works in Mexico City and his concern about the emerging problems of that immense metropolis is very often reflected in his work.
Indeed, it is an integral part of everything he has done, from his $5,000 minimal house, through his housing developments, to the largest project ever conceived for Mexico City, named Mexico Ciudad Futura (Return to the City of Lakes), which embraces the city as a geographical whole. His designs have appeared in numerous specialist journals has recieved International Design Awards in Bonn, New York and Indiana.
Inspiration and Process is presented in a completely new format, featuring a classic clothbound style first used by typographer Giambattista Bodoni at the end of the 18th century to protect unbound books, with the spine covered in cloth and front and back cover in raw grey cardboard. The production also incorporates Moleskine’s distinctive features such as the elastic band, round corners, inner pocket and allowing a 180 degrees flat opening to enjoy the printed page at its utmost.
