Description

This title is currently being re-printed. There is no new publication date as yet.

Today the Art Deco style enjoys a popularity unrivalled since its inception at the 1925 Exposition Internationale des Arts Decoratifs et Industriels Modernes in Paris, from which the style takes its name. In spite of this, the role of Art Deco in defining domestic architecture is often neglected. Divided into five chapters on five key styles of Art Deco house, this book showcases over 34 fantastic houses by some of the great architects of the 20th century, including Le Corbusier, Norman Bel Geddes, and Richard Neutra.

Art Deco House explores the stories behind the design, decoration, and furnishing of the greatest houses of the period, and investigates the important contribution that Art Deco made to the "Modern Movement" in architecture. Examples have been choosen from a broad range of houses including Art Deco icons such as Miami Beach, the Maison de Verre, and Eltham Palace, as well as a number of less famous but no less exciting buildings such as Michael Scott's Geragh in Ireland and Eckart Muthesius's Manik Bagh in India, all of which show the truly global impact of Art Deco. Tapping into the contemporary popularity of this design movement, Art Deco House creates a reference work for those who appreciate Art Deco.
