Description
"The house is a construction which has the finality of protecting man from the harshness of the weather during his daily activities." So says Yolanda Muriel in the first line of her introduction to this book, a meander through 88 houses the world over, the sole criterion being that they have been built in the last fifteen years. Every house gets four to six pages of photos and text - most have plans also. They are individually presented under some apposite and occasionally poetic title such as 'A Cantilever For A Garage' or 'A Wooden Box Held Up By Concrete Walls', and in the contents pages are handily grouped by architect. Notable buildings include the Casa Tagomago (sure to please Can fans), Shigeru Ban's almost unbearably minimalist Furniture House, and a peculiar glass and metal construction known simply as 'Alice'. Many different photographers are involved, and there should be enough variety of inspiration in the book to inspire the most jaded designer.
