This book shows 45 bars from around the world, from screaming riots of colour like Karim Rashid's Powder Club in New York or the shiny Kono Pizza in Milan to relatively restrained spots such as Thaiphoon in the Netherlands, which almost manages to make a chandelier seem subtle. All colours, shapes and sizes are represented with photographs and, often, plans. Special mention should go to the US/Austria collaboration between Acconci Studio and Purpur Architektur, the Murinsel in Graz. This floating bar is covered in triangular latticework that casts highly appealing shadows over the restful blue interior, making for a genuinely clever, modern space. There is plenty more in here to fire the imagination.
