Description
The new Dutch Embassy in in Mozambique was realised by Claus en Kaan Architecten and is set in the city of Maputo, close to the African coastline. It is an exceptional building, designed to a Dutch vision yet constructed using African materials. The use of local materials and techniques led to inventive solutions and new insights, giving the embassy a distinctive African/Dutch atmosphere but also providing a work environment that comes up to Dutch standards.
This book presents the building of theembassywith design drawings by Clausen Kaan Architecten and photographs by Christian Richters and Maarten Laupman. The position of the building in the city and the urban planning peculiarities of the city Maputo are addressed in a contribution by Mozambican architect Jos Forjaz, while the building itself is described by Hans Ibelings. The specific conditions in which this unique project was built are described by project managers Rob Gaunt and Jan Willem Smit. A concise guide to the architecture of the city of Maputo is a useful and interesting complement to these texts.
