Description

Demographic and structural change in our cities places new demands on urban development and the planning professions. The German Federal Ministry for Traffic, Building and Housing has initiated 'Workplace City', a several-stage project on the topic of urban development. In 2004, the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation ran a series of events based on the competition 'Workplace City 2003'. This publication presents the result of that series. The contributions to Work Place City from the fields of planning and design, politics and teaching demonstrate that germany is a country actively promoting urban redevelopment and generating exportable solutions for the current challenges of urbanity. A series of essays on urban redevelopment, mainly in Germany but also referring to England and Finland.
