Description
The latest issue of that powerhouse journal El Croquis presents work by eight exciting young Spanish practices - a total of 33 detailed studies of projects from Valencia to La Coruna and beyond. Each practice introduces itself with words of wisdom, poetry and/or confusion, and there are valedictory 'virtual conversations' pieced together by Carlos Arroyo from responses to a 'word cloud' generated during interviews.
The projects are presented with the usual close attention to detail and generous helpings of various plans, CGIs, sketches and photographs. Text is in English and Spanish, consisting mainly of architects explaining the reasoning behind and effects of their decisions. So the reader finds that Jose Selgas and Lucia Cano's house in La Florida occupies the available space in an allotment of trees, becoming barely visible despite a bright orange roof, while Mansilla & Tunon's forthcoming Automobile Museum will itself be a kind of huge machine, a massive cylinder built from the recycled remains of objects on display. Meet the new breed here.
