Description
New fire safety rules affecting all business premises in England and Wales will come into force in October 2006 under the Regulatory Reform Order, the biggest overhaul of fire safety legislation in decades.
This 'Guide to Fire Safety in Educational Premises' is for teaching establishments ranging from crches through to universities. It is divided into two parts:
Part 1: Explains what fire risk assessment is and how you might go about it. Fire risk assessment should be the foundation for all the fire precautions in your premises.
Part 2: Provides further guidance on fire precautions. The information is provided for you and others to dip into during your fire risk assessment or when you are reviewing your precautions.
This guide is for all employers, head teachers, governors, vice-chancellors, occupiers and owners of premises where the main use of the building or part of the building is for educational purposes including:
- Schools including Sunday schools and after school clubs
- Universities
- Academies
- Crches
- Adult education centres
- Outdoor education centres
- Music schools
It does not apply to residential premises such as university halls of residence, boarding school sleeping accommodation.
