Description
The bridges of Paris are legendary; each in its own way recounts the history of the city and its transformations. The Simone-de-Beauvoir footbridge has now joined the ranks of this mythological group. The idea for this bridge first emerged with the dawning if the 21st century and finally opened to pedestrians in the summer of 2006. It is a taut line drawn between the French National Library and the terraces of the Bercy Park, creating a link between the new districts on the left and right banks of the river Seine. More than just a highly sculptural architectural and engineering masterpiece, it is a new public space in the city. This book tells the story of the footbridge, from design through to construction.
