Description
Continuing their acclaimed book publishing programme and the huge success of Hand of the Architect (2009, also available from Turnaround), iconic product designers Moleskine are proud to announce a new architecture series, Inspiration and Process, which compiles individual monographs approaching the design process of different international architects: Zaha Hadid, Bolles + Wilson, Giancarlo De Carlo and Alberto Kalach.
Giancarlo de Carlo (1919-2005) was an Italian architect, writer and educator. He was one of the founding members of Team X, a group of architects challenging the modernist doctrines and a key figure in the discourse on participation in architecture. Much of de Carlo's built work is located in Urbino, where he proposed a master plan which has been implemented over the past 40 years. Combined with his social housing at Terni, the built work has provided a foundation for his views on the involvement of users and inhabitants in the design process.
De Carlo's writings supported this architectural approach; he was editor of the bilingual journal, Spazio e Società, published between 1978-2001, an inspiring educator and founded the International Laboratory of Architecture and Urbanism (ILAUD). In 1993 he was awarded the Royal Gold Medal and has received a multitude of international awards, an honorary degree and the Italian Republic’s Gold Medal for Culture. His work has been featured in many solo exhibitions including Triennale di Milano, Centre Pompidou, MAXXI, Rome.
Inspiration and Process is presented in a completely new format, featuring a classic clothbound style first used by typographer Giambattista Bodoni at the end of the 18th century to protect unbound books, with the spine covered in cloth and front and back cover in raw grey cardboard. The production also incorporates Moleskine’s distinctive features such as the elastic band, round corners, inner pocket and allowing a 180 degrees flat opening to enjoy the printed page at its utmost.
