Guide to Part L
The requirements of the Building Regulations Part L are difficult to assimilate and apply. This guide will explain the meaning and importance of each clause, and wherecross-reference documents are not available in the ADs, the guide aims to either fill in the gaps or provide alternative solutions.
There is quite a lot of repetition in the four Approved Documents to Part L of the Building Regulations, so this guide is designed to give a quick ‘road map’ overview of each section.
Approved Document L: Coneservaton of Fuel and Power
The changes to Approved Document L, due to come into force in October 2010, will require a 25% improvement above current standards for every new home. The minimumlevels of energy efficiency for building fabric and services will also increase, so that CO2 targets cannot be achieved through renewables alone. This reflects the principle ofreducing overall demand for energy. The measures will also come into play when people elect to carry out work to existing buildings, including extensions and conversions,fabric renovations, replacement windows and boilers.
