Description

With a surface of 157 hectares, HafenCity, one of Europe‘s most striking inner-city urban development projects, will increase the city of Hamburg by 40 %. The entire area’s development period reaches until 2020-25.

Between historic Speicherstadt and river Elbe, a new city will rise featuring an urban mix of residences, services, culture, leisure, tourism, and shops. It’s all about a completely re-designed core city. There will arise spatially overlapped and temporally differentiated public meeting points, neighbourhood, work, and visitor places.

This book is the first to systematically document the created interaction qualities and forms, which it ranges into the complex urban transformation process on a planning, cultural-sociological, and urban sociological level. Photography is the carrier medium of this observation. Through this form of qualitative research, as through the HafenCity itself, new grounds have been broken.
