Description
Massive changes in household structures and a conscious demand for ecologically built housing have led to radical changes in the housing field. No longer can the nuclear family automatically be taken as the basis for urban housing concepts. Flexible designs based on ecological principles and an emphasis on outdoor space are now in demand. Thus architects are being called upon, just as in the 1920s, to deliver new concepts. This volume presents 31 forward-looking developments from the likes of Shuhei Endo and Splitterwerk, but pride of place must surely go to Edouard Francois' Tower Flower, a housing block with so many flower pots it looks like it has been overcome by greenery. This title will serve both as a source of inspiration and a reference work for all those involved in housing, but it should be pointed out that while it is in English and German, this is not parallel translation; the publishers probably did not have space. However, the number of plans and images presented should help to surmount any language barrier.
