Description
Available for the first time in the UK, this bilingual tome (English/German) is a high-quality look at the works of 73 prominent landscape designers in the land that gave us Werner Herzog. Projects get two pages apiece, and are illustrated with a mix of text, photos, plans, sketches and/or CGIs. As is standard with works detailing what's going on now, not everything in the book has been built yet, so Drecker's design for a landscaped "slagheap-event" and Kienle Plan's ongoing redevelopment of the Rastatt barracks rub shoulders with the Bremen fortifications and embankment (by Planergruppe Oberhausen) and the Landscape Park renewal of North Duisburg (by Latz + Partner). In fact there is a huge variety of projects here, of interest to the landscape designer or artist, the planner or architect, or indeed anyone who wants to gain a grasp of what's going on in Germany.
The book comes complete with an appendix giving contact details for the firms as well as a real rogues' gallery of mugshots, so if you see what appears to be a lunatic brandishing a pair of secateurs it might just be the highly professional designer you've engaged.
