About the Author

Hattie Hartman

Hattie Hartman is Sustainability Editor of The Architects’ Journal. An American architect and urban planner, she has been based in London for twenty years. She received her undergraduate degree in Fine Arts (architectural history) from Harvard University and a joint Masters in Architecture and Urban Studies from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Upon arriving in London, she worked as an architect before turning to freelance journalism in 1998. In 2008, she took on the newly-created role of Sustainability Editor at the AJ. She writes the AJ’s daily sustainability blog (ajfootprint.com), which receives about 60,000 hits a month.
