Description

Through a reappraisal of the projects by Manuel de la Pea Surez, this book shows the transcendence of modernity in 20th century culture and its relationship with the architecture of the Canary Islands. Surez proposed the regeneration of the dominant styles, coinciding with Spains new generation of architects who were bridging the international trends of modernitys second wave. Although Manuel de la Pea won national attention with his first projects, the distance of the islands from the mainland and the difficulty for mainland architectural scholars to examine his buildings gradually eroded his fame, and his work was subsequently neglected. This is a rare and fascinating look at the modernist urban and landscape work of the overlooked architect.
