Description

This textbook is a complete reference work and compendium on the entire topic of rehabilitating and renovating buildings damaged by humidity and salt. Besides basic principles and damage mechanisms, the book describes products, methods and systems for subsequent horizontal and vertical waterproofing and lists a number of supporting measures. It explains characteristics and advantages and defines the limits of application.

The book provides a complete description for the rehabilitation of masonry subjected to salt attack and presents various desalination methods and plastering systems. Finally, the book is completed by a section describing the destruction of the structural fabric by wood-staining and wood-destroying fungi and insects. There is also a chapter on mould formation caused by condensation and its impacts on residential climate and human health. The book thus deals with the entire topic of moisture penetration in buildings and illustrates the interdependencies and impacts of various damage profiles.

Numerous pictures and tables and the practice-related layout make the reference work into a practical work companion.
