Description
This bulletin, which is a joint DfES and NHS Estates publication, provides guidance on education accommodation in hospital settings. It reflects the wide variation in pupils' needs and looks at teaching in hospital schoolrooms, at the bedside, in isolation wards and in psychiatric units. A broad range of design issues are covered including: the range of spaces needed; the nature of individual spaces; furniture, fittings and finished; and environmental design.
A case study section provides an analysis of seven existing educational settings. This guide will be useful to all those involved with the design and briefing of these facilities including architects, local authority officers, hospital trust estates managers, project managers and teachers. The advice is applicable to adaptation as well as new building projects.
