Description
The Norwegian architect Wenche Selmer (1920-1998) was one of the few women who gained prominence among Norwegian architects in the 20th century, receiving the Timber Award in 1969 for her wooden architecture. Norwegian Wood is the first book on Selmer's life and architecture, presenting 14 of her beautiful wooden cabins and houses in detailed descriptions, plans and newly commissioned colour photography as well as archival images. Located at the Norwegian coast or in the forest and mountains, Selmer's wooden cabins are a blend of local building traditions with modern conveniences. Her attention to the environment as well as to the practical needs of her clients is evident in the thoughtful design of these buildings.
