These remarkable photographs and film stills concern abandoned Cold War military bases in the former East Germany. For the most part they are in a dispassionate, documentary style - '41 Gymnasia' is a series of gaudy, decaying military gyms; '08/26' combines static footage of a disused Soviet base and an operational RAF base. The effect, however, is fascinating and haunting, conjuring up the ghosts of a gigantic, secretive yet now vanished presence, laying bare the remorseless action of time and entropy on even the most monolithic structures. Splashes of colour humanise the machine; the graffito 'Cood bay Forst Zinna' is vivid, vital testimony from the largely undocumented men who fleshed out the Soviet empire. Spellbinding.
