Description

This smart and bijou book is a document of a modern rendition of Around the World in 80 Days. The author, an Italian artist, visited 17 megalopolises (the majority in Asia) in the company of an architect andtwo film directors: his trip inspired a Turin exhibition and the title under discussion. Photographs both of the built environment and its interaction with people record the journeys through cities such as Bombay, Kuala Lumpur, Seoul and Mexico City, along with descriptive text (in the form of bulletin emails) and questions posed to architectural notables such as Yona Friedman and Winy Maas.

The overall theme is of a world revolving around its future, with Asia, and more loosely a 'far East' concept incorporating Latin America, moving to centre stage. This conceit quite probably being correct, the book becomes an interesting and portable travelogue, looking into the world to come.
