Description
Legendary for his masssive photographic undertaking The North American Indian, Edward Sheriff Curtis (1868-1852) recorded much more than portraits of Native American tribespeople.
Among his extensive body of work are numerous images of native dwellings: tipis, hogans, huts, cliff houses, adobes, and many more structures possibly less well known to the general public, such as tombs, totems, granaries and other religious buildings fast disappearing.
Faithfully reproduced from original prints, these haunting and touching photographs are put into context with the rest of Curtis's work by curator and historian, Rod Slemmons.
