Description
David Bennett s latest book focuses on the fusion of innovative architecture and engineering on London Underground s Jubilee Line Extension.
The book highlights the complexity of the engineering involved and the difficulties of creating architecture in reverse (a building as a hole in the ground with no elevation and with problems of light and entrance).
Based on interviews with the architects, contractors and engineers involved on the project, each station is introduced in turn highlighting the design conception and constructional issues. The book is prefaced with a brief overview of the history of the tube network and the innovation in the way that the new stations were commissioned.
