This volume encompasses three centuries of London's metropolitan growth westward, from Georgian St Marylebone and the riverside terraces of Chelsea and Chiswick to Heathrow Airport and the outer fringes of Middlesex Metroland. Streaked with industrial developments alongside canal, road and railway, the diverse residential suburbs extend from the select stucco streets of Kensington and Paddington, studded with Victorian churches, to more leisurely Edwardian roads winding over the uplands of Ealing and Harrow.
