I just loved this book but it made my arms ache; it's big! The book contains 300 photographs of the people, places and parties that have made a mark in the fashion and social world of the last eight decades. However, the emphasis is on the more modern times. The photography by, among others, Avedon, Beaton, Leibovitz, Lichfield, Parkinson, Newton, Picasso, Penn, Ritts and Testino, is superb. Although the photographs were all commissioned by Vogue, some of them have not appeared in print until now. There are several surprises. The short articles introducing themes or, indeed, the selected people, places and parties, are written with the wit and style expected in a Vogue publication. This book is not only sheer escapism but also a social documentary on a certain kind of lifestyle. Enjoy!
