Description
Based in Kyoto, Japan, Waro Kishi (b. 1950) belongs to the generation of Japanese architects that emerged after Tadao Ando. Although he has acknowledged the influence of the Osaka architect, Kishi has a sensibility all his own. Made primarily of glass and steel rather than massive expanses of concrete like Ando`s work, Kishi`s building are considered by some to be more delicate and subtle, and overall his designs are less driven by iconic forms. A self-described contrarian who preferred the works of such architects as Marcel Breuer and Richard Neutra when many others were embracing Postmodernism, Kishi refuses such labels as `Modernist` or `Miesian.` This is the first book to provide an overview of this innovative architect`s career. It contains 15 houses, 19 urban projects, 5 interior-type designs and a chronology, biography and bibliography. The photography and plans are of a high quality while the text is by the architect himself, explaining his intent and process. A book that does what it says it does.
