Description
The architects of the agency 5+1AA, Alfonso Femia and Gianluca Peluffo, are responsible for the restructuring of two former symbolic industrial buildings in Milan, the Ice factory and the Ice Palace. The Ice factory, situated near the harbour zone of Porta Vittoria, was built in 1899 and was used for the manufacturing of ice. The Ice Palace was built nearby in 1923. Having been one of first covered ice rinks in Europe, it becomes from 1957 an alternative place welcoming events such as the first Italian festival of rock, film projections, sportive events and entertainments. In 2002, it closed its doors to the public for renovation. Now, the air and the light circulate between the Ice Palace and the Ice factory on one hand and Milan on the other hand, a symbolic circulation increased by the fact that the presence of the art on the site replaced the impression of morbidity until then dominant. As a reinvention of the space and the spirit of the place.
